beliefs Our Mission:
We at Mt. Salem Baptist Church (MSBC) believe that God is calling us to fulfill the following…. “And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit theses to faithful men who will be able to teach others. 2nd Timothy 2:2

We believe the only weapon the devil can use against the church is ignorance (Being untrained, unaware and misinformed about God). God said in Hosea 4:6, “My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge.” The first ministry of the church is teaching. This is why Jesus told his disciples (students, pupils, and learners) in the Great Commission, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: (Matthews 28:19-20).

When we look at God’s Servant, Doing God’s Work, In God’s Way, By God’s Power, the first ministry of the Holy Spirit is teaching. Jesus Christ said “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things (John 14:26).

Therefore, if the first ministry of the church and the Holy Spirit is to be teaching, then the first ministry of the Christian is to be learning. In Paul’s second letter to Timothy, he instructs Timothy to “study to show your-self approved unto God, a workman that needs not be ashamed, who rightly divides the word of truth.”

This charge is for all Christians who have been called to the fellowship of faith at MSBC. Just as we expect our medical doctors and lawyers to be fully trained and educated, the people of God are worthy of the same level of expertise and honor. Yes, the Holy Spirit guides and directs, but the more you give God to use, the more God can make of you. With this in mind, we are expected to further our Christian education for the cause of Christ to the highest possible level. Therefore, MSBC is committed to teaching Christians to become disciples of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
